Michael Noonan TD

Michael Noonan was re-elected to the Dáil in May, 2007. He is Vice-Chairperson of the Joint Committee on Constitutional Amendment and Children.

He was re-elected to the Dáil in May 2002 and was on the Fine Gael Front Bench without portfolio, October, 2004-September 2007, when he was also Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

First elected to the Dáil in 1981, Michael Noonan was Leader of Fine Gael from February 2001 until May 2002. During this time Michael was also the party's spokesperson on Northern Ireland.

Michael was the Fine Gael front bench spokesperson on Finance from 1997 to 2001 and was Minister for Health between 1994 and 1997.Prior to this he was spokesperson on Transport, Energy & Communications (1993-94). Michael was party spokesperson on Finance from 1987-1993. He held two different ministerial posts between 1986 and 1987, that of Minister for Industry, Commerce and Trade and Minister for Energy respectively.

During Fine Gael's term in government Michael was Minister for Justice 1982-1986. In 1981 he was party spokesperson on Education.

He was a member of Limerick County Council from 1974-81 and 1991-94, and a member of the Mid-Western Health Board from 1991-94.
